Karon Municipality used to be the Karon Sanitation District, established by announcement of the Ministry of Interior, published in the Royal Gazette, Volume 104, Chapter 110, dated June 11, 1987, effective on April 8, 1987, before it has been changed from "Karon Sanitation District" to "Karon Municipality" according to the Change of the Sanitary Status to Municipality Act, 1999, published in the Royal Gazette, Volume 116, Section 9 Kor, dated February 24, 1999. Location and characteristics of the location: Karon Municipality Office is located at No. 1 Kata Road, Karon Subdistrict, Mueang Phuket District, Phuket Province, which is about 14 kilometers from Phuket town.
